Books With Bite: Ocean County Library Celebrates Teen Read Week

This week, Ocean County Library invites its teenage users to stop by and celebrate Teen Read Week!

This year’s theme is Books with Bite, and there are several vampire and horror themed programs offered for teenagers, including:

Books with Bite: A Short History of Horror and Some Words on Publishing
Jackson Branch, 2 Jackson Dr., Jackson
October 14, 7 p.m.
Horror and dark fantasy short story writer Rita Oakes presents an overview of her scary tales, shares information about writing and getting published, and will read a selection from one of her latest works.

Teen Read Week Vampire Party
Toms River Branch, 101 Washington St., Toms River
October 15, 6:30 p.m.
Join us for our special party where everything is about vampires—trivia, movies, refreshments and more!

Van Helsing: Fact or Fiction?
Barnegat Branch, 112 Burr St., Barnegat
October 15, 6 p.m.
Horror author Rita Oakes will be leading a discussion about the truth about fabled vampire hunter Van Helsing before showing the popular movie from 2004.

Books With Bite Movie Matinee
Jackson Branch, 2 Jackson Dr., Jackson
October 16, 3 p.m.
Check out some classic horror films at the Jackson branch! Call the branch for more information about the title and movie rating.

Halloween Science: Fact or Fiction
Lacey Branch, 10 E. Lacey Rd., Forked River
October 16, 7 p.m.
Learn about the origin of Halloween. Topics covered will include the science behind such myths of witches, voodoo, zombies and ghosts.

South Jersey Ghost Research Program
Island Heights Branch, Summit & Central Aves., Island Heights
October 20, 7 p.m.
Stop by the Island Heights branch for the South jersey Ghost Research Program, if you dare! The program will include a video presentation, listening to spirit voices (more commonly known as Electronic Voice Phenomena), a question-and-answer session and more!
