Inauguration shown in Mancini Hall

Today’s inauguration of President Barack H. Obama was braodcast on a large screen in Mancini Hall this morning. More than 100 people from the area sat and watched as the President and Vice President Joe Biden were sworn into office. Refreshments were served.
Unlike the crowds in Washington, D.C. our group did not have to contend with the cold temperatures. But like the Washington crowd we were able to share the historic moment as a community. Thanks to Colleen and TR programming for putting the program together.
The Asbury Park Press has an article on their Web site about our program. It can be found at their Web site:  http://www.app.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/B3/20090120/OBAMAINAUGURATION10/90120085/-1/OBAMAINAUGURATION

They also posted a video taken at the library.  It can be seen at http://www.app.com/section/VIDEONETWORK&videoID=1007398365

“Shared Memories of Newark” program @ Barnegat

About 40 people gathered at the Barnegat Branch library to take part in the first of a three-part series dedicated to the beauty and culture of Newark. “Shared Memories of Newark,” the first of the series, was a great success. Former residents of Newark and others came together to share stories and view a short film, Branch Brook Park: Legacy of the Gilded Age. New connections were forged and old ones rekindled over lively discussion and refreshments.

Happy 2009 OCL

small12-balloon120Ocean County Library welcomed in 2009 with its own special party New Year’s Eve. Hor d’oeuvres and a midnight champagne toast along with singers Amy Speace and Steve Forbert entertained the crowd until Scott Rodas, who organized the evening, counted down the final few seconds of 2008 and welcomed in 2009.

The event drew sold more than 150 tickets and everybody left saying they had a great time! “Do it again in 2010!”
