Congratulations Cathy

Cathy Lynch was presented with NJALA’s 2010 Kehnast Award at the 2010 annual conference.  Cathy, PLA in the Barnegat branch, was honored for her service and contributions to her library, the Association, and New Jersey library activities.

 Cathy also was elected NJALA President, 2010-11.  Congratulations to our Cathy for a job well done!

Asian Tea Experience at Brick

On May 25 over 80 people attended, The Asian Tea Experience, a program sponsored by the Friends of the Brick Library in celebration of Asian Pacific Heritage Month. Food historian, Judith Krall-Russo, talked about how tea in China and Japan is enjoyed in many forms from a simple bowl of tea to the beautiful and intricate tea ceremony. The program included a tea-making demonstration of the Chinese tea ceremony – gong fu cha, and the Japanese tea ceremony – cha-no-yu, as well as a display of Asian tea implements.

2010 Waretown Founder’s Day

Despite the ongoing threat of torrential rains, two of WA’s finest (wo-)manned the OCL booth at the Waretown Founder’s Day Fest.  Sally Harrison and Dolores Marino enthusiastically provided passersby, including the township’s mayor, Joseph Lachawiec, with helpful information and great handouts.

Mystery solved in Waretown

Author Carole Bradshaw took her WA audience through a seven layered puzzle program, inviting the audience to actively relive the steps she took to determine the origin of a mystery tile she found on the beach in Ship Bottom.  As this evening’s program progressed, excitement abounded as each step engendered more and more intrigue until the final answer of the tile’s history was solved.
