At the Ocean County Library Manchester Branch on Tuesday, June 26 at 2:00 pm, Rebecca Bari from Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield will talk about the labels that the FDA requires on many food items. She will provide an overview of the categories of information found on the labels and break down each section into what it should encompass. She will show you how to identify serving sizes and the number of servings per package and define terms like, low fat, reduced calories, and no added sugar, to name a few. She will review the concept of percent daily value (%DV) and clear up some of the confusion over the meaning of so called “natural,” “healthy,” and “organic” foods- descriptions which often mislead the consumer. The goal of this session is to raise your awareness about the food you are buying!
The program is part of the library’s “Chapters of Health” series and is open to the adult public, free of charge. Please register online to www.theoceancountylibrary.org or call 732.657.7600.
The Manchester Branch of the Ocean County Library is located at 21 Colonial Drive in Manchester Township.
