MANAHAWKIN – Play Mah Jongg at the Stafford Branch of the Ocean County Library on the following Fridays in April: the 13th, 20th, and 27th from 1:00-4:00 PM. Please bring the current year game card, and game sets. Mah Jongg originated in China and has recently experienced a resurgence in popularity. Many people are realizing the intellectual challenge it poses, and are drawn to the beauty and excitement of the game itself. Experience is helpful.

City kid Ren MacCormack moves to a small town where rock ‘n roll and dancing have been banned, and his rebellious spirit shakes up the residents. Rated PG-13.

MEET POET RICHARD MORGAN, AUTHOR OF: I AM SEA GLASS

MANAHAWKIN – The Stafford branch of the Ocean County Library is presenting local poet Richard Morgan on Monday, April 16th, at 1:00 PM, who will talk about his book: I Am Sea Glass. He states that there is poetry in all of us, and he’ll show us ways in which we might tap into that resource. He will also take us on a journey of his favorite poems, and tell how he succeeded in becoming a published author. Mr. Morgan has been writing poetry for 50 years, and lives in the area where he is inspired by the wind and waves. His wife Pat painted the watercolor illustrations that are in his book.

FREE WELLNESS SCREENINGS – BLOOD PRESSURE, CHOLESTEROL, GLUCOSE, AND STROKE RISK ASSESSMENT

MANAHAWKIN – Representatives of Meridian Health’s Cardiovascular Network and the Southern Ocean Medical Center will be at the Stafford branch of the Ocean County Library on Tuesday, April 17th from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM to conduct free wellness screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, and stroke risk assessment. MASTER GARDENERS SERIES:
SEASHORE AND BAY AREA PLANTINGS

MANAHAWKIN – The Master Gardeners of Ocean County will present “Seashore and Bay Area Plantings,” on Monday, March 26th at 2:30 PM at the Stafford Branch of the Ocean County Library. Master Gardener Keavy Franzoni will talk about the uniqueness of the shore area and how those qualities can be paired with plants that will enhance your property. Ms. Franzoni’s background reflects a practical approach to gardening at the shore. During the remaining time, the Master Gardener team will address any questions you may have and will be at the library from 1:30 – 4:30 PM. GENTLE EXERCISE FOR MATURE ADULTS

MANAHAWKIN – Anna Salibello will be teaching a series of exercise classes designed especially for mature adults at The Stafford Branch of the Ocean County Library on Mondays at 1:00 PM on October 31st and November 7th . ISLAM: ITS POSITIVE IMPACT ON CIVILIZATION

MANAHAWKIN – Mimi Al-Torey will present the program – Islam: Its Positive Impact On Civilization at the Stafford branch of the Ocean County Library on Monday, October 17th at 2:30 PM. Islam is the religious faith of Muslims, and is also defined as a group of nations where Islam is the dominant religion. It is a monotheistic religion whose god is Allah, Muhammad is the last prophet, and the Qur’an is the word of Allah.

MOBILE MAMMOGRAPHY VAN

MANAHAWKIN – The AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s Ruth Newman Shapiro (RNS) Mobile Digital Mammography Van will be at the Stafford Branch of the Ocean County Library on Friday, September 30th from 10:00AM -2:30PM to provide mammograms. The van makes cancer detection easily accessible to women, and features the latest low-dose mammography equipment. It is accredited by the American College of Radiology and the FDA. Call 1-800-246-2404 to make an appointment and have your insurance card ready. Most insurance plans are accepted, and funds are available to provide mammograms to women without insurance coverage through the Mammography Assistance Fund, and the New Jersey Cancer Education and Early Detection Grant. The van will be parked in the library parking lot.

KIM YARSON IN CONCERT

MANAHAWKIN – The Stafford branch of the Ocean County Library is presenting Singer/Songwriter Kim Yarson in Concert on Monday, August 29th, at 7:00 PM. Kim’s music is positive, uplifting music for the soul and can be described as a cross between country, pop, and rock. Her debut CD Satisfied was released in 2009, and her second CD Thankful is due out in August. Kim has close ties to this area and finds LBI inspirational to her song-writing. She has also shot her music video there. Kim says, ”I believe it is my duty as a songwriter to write songs that matter and that don’t drag people down, but instead leave folks feeling hopeful.”

ELDER LAW SEMINAR

MANAHAWKIN – Scott M. Hanula, a certified elder law attorney and member of the National Elder Law Foundation, focuses on the special needs and problem areas of the senior population. He will talk about Medicaid, Medicare, protecting home and family assets from long-term care costs, and essential estate planning documents at the Stafford Branch of the Ocean County Library on Tuesday, June 21st at 2:00 PM. He will also explain the new Medicaid regulations, estate administration, guardianships, probate, and more. Generally, most people are unclear as to what they need to do, and they are unaware of what the ramifications are for not planning properly. Learn what you need to do to avoid any pitfalls. There will be time for questions.
