Art auction and reception at Manchester

The Friends of the Manchester branch were busy Saturday with a book sale and an art reception and auction.

The reception started off with a live auction on 10 pieces. It then kicked off a silent auction that will continue until Nov. 20th.

Those artwork pieces in the silent auction (which include photographs, paintings, drawings and decoupage) will remain on display until the end of November. Minimum bid on those pieces is $10.

Bidding and viewing of the artwork is open to the public.

Alborada Spanish Dancers performed @ Manchester

On Friday, October 9th the Alborada Spanish Dancers performed at the Manchester Branch as part of our celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Close to 100 people showed up to watch this highly rated company of Flamenco dancers with their exotic costumes, move to the beat of traditional music.

Back to the 60s in Manchester

Manchester branch kicked off August with ’60s Week! The band “Strictly ’60s” rocked out to tunes from the Beatles, Stones, and Doors to an audience of 175 patrons.
The fun-filled week included 60s Jeopardy with Lou Nemphos as Alex Trebek, Beatles Day with the Utlimate Beatles Quiz, ’60s Movie Day with showings of “Funny Girl” and “13 Days,” Baseball in the ’60s and Woodstock Rock Band. The week concluded with ’60s karaoke where 30 patrons and our own Sabrina La Spata singing “Hey Jude” and doing cartwheels in front of our new book section!

Manchester: Women’s History Staff Dress Up Day

On Friday March 6th, the Manchester Branch once again held Women’s History Staff Dress Up Day. It was so popular last year with our customers and so much fun for staff that we brought this activity back by popular demand. This year’s characters included Queen Elizabeth (Mary Bridges), Norma Rae (Andrea Perillo), Rosie the Riveter (Barbara Moran), the Statue of Liberty (Terrie Richardson), Dolly Madison (Elaine Masur), and Jane Goodall (Joanne Halloran).

Manchester branch concludes Jewish lit program

The Manchester Branch recently completed its second session of the “Let’s Talk About It: Jewish Literature Book Discussion Series,” which was funded by a grant from Nextbook and the American Library Association. Approximately 35 people attended each of the five sessions! Pictured is Dr. Ali Botein-Furrevig, Professor of English and Literature at Ocean County College, who led the discussions.
