MOVIES AT THE LIBRARY

MANAHAWKIN – The Stafford branch of the Ocean County Library will be showing the feature film Exporting Raymond on Saturday, October 8th at 2:00 PM. A documentary on Phil Rosenthal’s experiences during the making of “Voroniny,” the Russian-language version of “Everybody Loves Raymond.” Rated PG.

The family movie Spooky Buddies is scheduled for Saturday, October 22nd at 2:00 PM. Disney’s talking puppies wind up in a mysterious mansion full of ghostly delights. Rated G.

POETRY WITH GEMMA

MANAHAWKIN – The Stafford branch of the Ocean County Library is hosting the program: Poetry with Gemma on Thursday, October 13th from 2:30 – 4:00 PM. Published author Gemma, who has written hundreds of poems covering all kinds of topics, will bring her expertise to other poetry enthusiasts. This program welcomes all poets who would like to share their poetry with others for valuable feedback, impressions, and commentary. Please bring in some copies of your work, which will be returned to you before you leave.

ISLAM: ITS POSITIVE IMPACT ON CIVILIZATION

MANAHAWKIN – Mimi Al-Torey will present the program – Islam: Its Positive Impact On Civilization at the Stafford branch of the Ocean County Library on Monday, October 17th at 2:30 PM. Islam is the religious faith of Muslims, and is also defined as a group of nations where Islam is the dominant religion. It is a monotheistic religion whose god is Allah, Muhammad is the last prophet, and the Qur’an is the word of Allah.

Mimi will speak about Islamic civilization, its values and principles, culture, folklore, and the birth of Islam. The program will also include a description of its contributions to science.

MAH JONGG

MANAHAWKIN – Play Mah Jongg at the Stafford Branch of the Ocean County Library beginning Tuesday, October 18th from 1:00-3:30 PM. Please bring the current year game card, and game sets. Mah Jongg originated in China and has recently experienced a resurgence in popularity. Many people are realizing the intellectual challenge it poses, and are drawn to the beauty and excitement of the game itself. Experience is helpful.

CREATIVE WRITING GROUP

MANAHAWKIN – The Stafford branch of the Ocean County Library’s Creative Writing Group will meet on Wednesday, October 19th from 1:00 – 2:30 PM. What is creative writing? It’s an expression of the writer’s thoughts and emotions, rather than merely conveying information. If you love to write in any form – fiction, screenplays, etc., – this is a chance to meet others with the same passion. Share ideas and information, with the option of bringing in a one-page sample of your work with some copies for others to read. The group is limited to five participants so register early.
