East Meets West At The Ocean County Library

Chinese puppetry has been around for ages, with its earliest performances dating back to 1600 BC.

Master puppeteer Hua Hua Zhang bridges the gap between this ancient art form and modern Chinese and American culture in her show “East Meets West”, which she is taking to two Ocean County Library branches July 24.

“East Meets West” will be performed twice that day, in the Little Egg Harbor branch (290 Mathistown Road) at 2 p.m. and at the Upper Shores branch (112 Jersey City Avenue, Lavalette).

Zhang has traveled the world as a puppeteer, both as a member of the China Puppet Arts Troupe of Beijing as well as independently. In 2002 she received the prestigious Jim Henson Foundation award for her work in creating puppet based theater.

This program is sponsored by the Ocean First Foundation Arts and Cultural Grant with additional funding from the Ocean County Library Foundation and Ocean County Library.

These programs are free and open to the public. For more information or to register after July 10, contact the library by telephone at 609-494-2480 or online at http://www.theoceancountylibrary.org.
