Did Lizzie Borden whack her parents?

TOMS RIVER –   Imagine this. It is August 4, 1892, an unusually hot and humid day at 62 Second Street, Fall River, Massachusetts.  One of the most notorious double murders in American history has just taken place.

One week later, Lizzie Borden is arrested for taking an axe and killing her father and step-mother.

The following June, after deliberating for 90 minutes, a jury acquits her.

Nine Theatrical will reenact this historically-accurate true crime thriller at several branches of the Ocean County Library.  They will present Lizzie; the maid; and several other possible suspects who share their version of what they were doing that fateful day while the murders were being committed.

Learn about the victims: Lizzie’s miserly father Andrew and standoffish step-mother Abby. Listen to what the prosecutor had to say. Observe the findings at the crime scene.

Lizzie was found innocent by the court of law but the public developed her into a legend as the most notorious murderer of her time. Join in as the audience is polled about who they think took the axe and gave the couple 40 whacks.

Now, 120 years later, people still ask, “Did she or didn’t she do it?” You decide.

The play will be performed at the following library branches:

Barnegat, 112 Burr St., Tue. Oct. 9 @ 7 p.m.

Jackson, 2 Jackson Dr., Wed. Oct. 10 @ 7 p.m.
