MANCHESTER BRANCH LIBRARY TO HOLD

SEMINAR ON COOKING FOR ONLY ONE PERSON

MANCHESTER– Rebecca Bari from Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield will present “Table for One: A Guide for Shopping and Cooking” at the Manchester library branch Tuesday Oct. 9 @ 2 p.m. 

She will discuss the planning, organizing and strategies for your trip to the supermarket. She will also show you how to scale down recipes to decrease the quantity plus how to store and effectively utilize leftovers so that you have extra meals on hand that are tasty and nutritious without spending all your time in the kitchen. Rebecca will provide recipe cards for participants as well as food samples made from the cards.

The program is part of the library’s “Chapters of Health” series and is open to the adult public, free of charge. Please register online to www.theoceancountylibrary.org or call 732.657.7600.

MANCHESTER BRANCH LIBRARY TO HOST TALK ABOUT NEGRO LEAGUE BASEBALL AT YANKEE STADIUM

 

MANCHESTEROnTuesday October 9,starting at 5:30pm Dr. Lawrence Hogan will present “The House that Ruth Built and Pop Opened: Negro League Baseball at Yankee Stadium” at the Manchester library branch.

He will discuss the history of Negro League baseball from 1930 through 1961 at Yankee Stadium, focusing on the historic opening of the Stadium to Negro League play on July 5, 1930. The history of Negro League baseball at Yankee Stadium will be placed into the context of the development of Negro League baseball from the post reconstruction era to its appearance at Yankee Stadium. Dr. Lawrence will share video and exhibit materials. A player from the Negro League will also be joining the program.

This event is funded by the Horizons Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. It is open to adults, free of charge. Please go online to www.theoceancountylibrary.org or call 732.657.7600 to register.

MANCHESTER– Tarot card readings will be available for $20 per session at the Manchester library branch Thursday, October 11 from 4 to 8:30 pm.

Sponsored by the Manchester Branch’s Friends group, all proceeds from the event will benefit the Manchester branch.
