Upper Shores celebrates Lavallette’s 125th anniversary

The Upper Shores branch hosted veterans who served on the USS LaVallette (DD-448), a destroyer that fought during WW2, and their families during the borough’s anniversary celebration this past weekend.

The branch also showcased the artwork of George S. Eisenberg who served aboard the LaVallette. He chronicled his life aboard the ship through 360 drawings and paintings.  Some of his artwork will be on display at the branch September and October.

The destroyer, commissioned in July 1942, saw action during the invasion of North Africa then moved on to the Pacific theater, participating in the battle for Guadacanal and the bombardment in the Leyte Gulf.
