Judy Macaluso: Ocean County Library’s 2012 Fall Friends Forum

Judy Sylvester & Taya Petino present their checklist for new Friends presidents and branch managers.

The 2012 Friends Fall Forum was held in Mancini Hall Tuesday Oct.2nd with approximately 50 Friends and Library Staff present.

The Friends Steering Committee planned the forum and presented topics that would be of most interest and value to the Friends.  The presenters were:

Jennifer Doderer, from the library’s Training Office, who gave a presentation on how to host a successful meeting;

Heather Andolsen, Public Relations, reviewed the promotions and activities that will happen during National Friends of the Library Week, Oct 21-27;

Judy Sylvester, Waretown Friends President, and Taya Petino, Point Beach Branch Manager, shared the checklists they developed for new Friends presidents and new branch managers to help them make a smooth transition into their new roles;

Marie Goine and Joyce Salow had a brief meeting with all the Friends presidents to gain support for working together on author events.  Judy Macaluso also told the group that they will have an opportunity to learn ways to recruit Baby Boomers as Friends by viewing the United for Libraries course that OCL has purchased for system use.

In addition, every Friends group will receive a flash drive with a PowerPoint presentation that tells the “The Friends Story –who we are and what do we do.” This presentation can be used by Friends Groups in the branch or at outreach events.  And each person who attended received a thank you bag filled with erase boards bearing the Friends logo.

The forum ended with a keynote address from Library Director Susan Quinn who acknowledged the enormous contributions of support and encouragement the Friends make to Ocean County Library.

About 50 people attended the forum.
