Ocean County Freeholders honor Christine Matteo

Ocean County Freeholder Joseph H. Vicari presents recently-retired Ocean County Library Chief Librarian Christine Matteo with a proclamation for her service to the community. To Christine’s right are her mother Doris Dirschauer (former librarian at the Bishop Library which is now part of the Ocean County Library system) and Ocean County Library Director Susan Quinn.

The Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders honored Christine Matteo Wed. January 16 for her 39 years of service with the Ocean County Library.

Freeholder Joseph H. Vicari, the Board’s liaison to the library, called Christine a guiding light in the library and said it was appropriate to recognize her service and dedication to the people of Ocean County.

Library Director Susan Quinn called Christine a mentor and a friend who touched the lives of innumerable people during her library career.

Christine credited her parents, both past librarians, for leading her towards her library career.  Her mother, Doris Dirschauer, worked at the Bishop Library.
