OCL welcomes four branch managers

TOMS RIVER – The Ocean County Library welcomes four branch managers to their new branches and communities.

Melissa Ernst will be the new branch manager at the Point Pleasant Borough branch, Rachael Lavoie-Dohn is now at Plumsted, Amanda Spino at Island Heights, and Christina Estlow  at the Berkeley branch.

“Melissa, Rachael, Amanda and Christina are all excellent librarians and I look forward to their contributions to the community in their new roles,” said Susan Quinn, library director.

Spino started in the Ocean County Library system in 2000 as a shelver at the Brick branch and most recently was the Senior Youth Services Librarian at Lakewood. She said she is most looking forward to listening and working with the residents of Island Heights, especially after seeing how the library served as a community resource after Superstorm Sandy.

Also drawing inspiration from the events after Superstorm Sandy, Lavoie-Dohn saw how important the library can be after helping people who lost everything get back on their feet. She said putting partnerships and outreach with the surrounding communities and school systems are her most important goals.

She is also interested in providing a welcoming atmosphere at her branch. She joined the system in 2001 as a part-time library assistant.

After working in Beachwood, Estlow stresses good leadership to help make the Berkeley branch an integral part of the community. This includes a new public service desk, which will make library resources more readily available.

Outreach is also an important goal for Ernst, who moved to Point Pleasant Borough after being branch manager at the Plumsted branch. After receiving her Master’s Degree of Library Science from Clarion University of Pennsylvania, she joined the Ocean County Library system in 2008.

“The library helps so many Ocean County residents,” Estlow said. “It is great to be part of that.”
