Manchester to show Jackie Robinson biopic “42”

The Manchester branch will screen the film, “42” on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at noon, 3 p.m. and again at 6 pm. See this popular biography on a large screen without paying the admission fee of a movie theater!  

In 1946, Negro League baseball player, Jackie Robinson (Chadwick Boseman) was recruited to a major league team by manager Branch Rickey (Harrison Ford), breaking the unspoken color line as the first modern African American major league player. This proved a major challenge for Robinson and his family as they endured unrelenting racist hostility on and off the field, from players and fans alike. As Jackie struggled against his nature to endure such abuse without complaint, he found allies and hope where he least expected it.

This PG13-rated movie is part of the library’s Feature Film Series. It is 128 minutes long. Although registration is not required, early arrival is recommended.
