National Library Card Sign Up Month At The Ocean County Library

Ocean County Library joins public libraries throughout the United States this September by participating in the American Library Association’s National Library Card Sign-Up Month.

The month of September was chosen for National Library Card Sign-Up month, because families nationwide are preparing for the beginning of the new school year. Like public library users nationwide, Ocean County Library cardholders are used to checking out educational materials, accessing technology and getting assistance from reference staff.

However, the role of public libraries is ever evolving and Ocean County Library goes beyond traditional library services.

Ocean County Library offers its customers a variety of materials besides books, including the latest video games, movies on DVD and Blu-Ray, and even eBooks that can downloaded from home.

The library also regularly hosts special events and programs that are free to the community, ranging from children’s craft and story times to author lectures featuring New York Times Best Selling authors.

This summer Ocean County Library even featured Rock and Roll Hall of Famer John Sebastian of the Lovin’ Spoonful and rock-and-roller Glenn Tilbrook of Squeeze at two outdoor concerts, attracting hundreds of people.

To encourage library card registration, all new Ocean County Library cardholders will be entered into a drawing at their local branches for prize packages. Previous library cardholders who are able to recruit new registrants will also be entered into those raffles.

Registration for a library card can be done at any Ocean County Library location. The requirements are proof of Ocean County residence (such as a government issued form of identification) and parental permission (if the registrant is under twelve years old).

Thanks to reciprocal borrowing agreements, Burlington County Library and Monmouth County Library cardholders are able to register for an Ocean County Library card. In order to register, they need to show their library card and an additional form of identification.

Prize winners will be notified on or around October 1.

For more information on how to register for a library card, contact any Ocean County Library location or go online to www.theoceancountylibrary.org
