On Saturday, October 12, starting at 2:00 pm the program, “Meet Jane Austen” will take place at the Manchester Branch Library. The performance by Trish Chambers will explore how Jane depicted society in her 6 major works, how the personalities of her heroines developed over the span of her novels and how events and experiences from her personal life are reflected in her writing. She will discuss some of the realities of English Society during the time of Jane Austen’s life and literary career. In her unique style, dressed in costume from that time period, Trish will portray a sense of what a woman’s life was like at the time, what was expected of her and what options were open to her. She will discuss opinions as to why the writings of this 19th Century author are still so popular today 200 years after they were first published.
