TOMS RIVER – The Ocean County Library was pleased this week to receive a donation from the Library of Congress from Congressman Jon Runyan (3rd District-NJ) at its headquarters in Toms River.

Twelve boxes containing more than 1,500 children’s and adult books were delivered to the library by staff members of the congressman, on Oct. 30.

“These books will help re-establish the Upper Shores Branch in Lavallette, which was devastated during last year’s storm. The books will be used in outreach programs for foster care children, and will help restore a much needed community service in an area that was so heavily affected by the storm,” Runyan said.

“We appreciate this generous gift and we will make sure these books get into the hands of children at the library,’’ Susan Quinn, director of the Ocean County Library said.

The Upper Shores Branch of the Ocean County Library reopened on Sept. 7 after months of restoration efforts following Superstorm Sandy. The Upper Shores branch which serves the communities of Seaside Park, Seaside Heights, Lavallette and sections of Brick and Toms River townships closed after Oct. 29, 2012.

“With the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy having just passed, I was pleased that my staff was able to deliver nearly 1,500 books from the Library of Congress to the Ocean County Library,’’ Rep. Jon Runyan (3rd District-NJ) said.
