19 families welcome newest members during National Adoption Day

More than 250 people representing 19 families took part in the seventh annual celebration of adoptions today, National Adoption Day, held in Ocean County Library’s Mancini Hall.

The celebration followed the official adoption process held earlier at the Ocean County Courthouse when the New Jersey Superior Court finalized the adoptions.

“Today’s event brings attention that there are children legally free (eligible for adoption) in New Jersey and awaiting permanent homes,” said Bill VanSchoick, Ocean Regional Planner for the NJ Department of Children and Families.

The whole adoption process usually takes between six months and a year to complete, said one official.

People can visit the NJ Department of Children and Families Child Protection and Permanency Web site www.njadopt.org or Foster and Adoptive Family Services Web site www.fafsonline.org for more information about adoption.

OCL mascot Sparks worked his magic as he entertained the children and distributed Sparks Fan Club packs.
