“Read Across America” is a National Education Association’s annual program that occurs around the birth anniversary of Theodor “Dr. Seuss” Geisel. This year marks the program’s 17th-anniversary.

It is a reading motivation and awareness program that calls for children across America to improve and increase their reading skills and comprehension.

Cara McCollum is an English major at Princeton University. Reading promotion has been very important to her. Her platform during the Miss America pageant was “Giving the Gift of Reading,” linked to a program she started as a teen.
