Read Across America With Miss New Jersey

Miss New Jersey Cara McCollum and Little Egg Harbor Mayor Arthur R. Midgley

Miss New Jersey Cara McCollum and Little Egg Harbor Mayor Arthur R. Midgley were at the Ocean County Library Little Egg Harbor branch to celebrate Read Across America on March 5.

Read Across America is sponsored by the National Education Association. Now in its 17th year, this year-round program focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources. The program is usually held in early March to coincide with Theodore “Dr. Seuss” Geisel’s birthday.

Mayor Midgely read “Green Eggs and Ham” while McCollum read “One Fish, Two Fish” to a library filled with young readers and their families. McCollum also autographed posters and posed for pictures. Since becoming Miss New Jersey, literacy has been one of her key areas of advocacy.
