TOMS RIVER –  Ten librarians from eight branches of the Ocean County Library participated in World Book Night Wednesday April 23, William Shakespeare’s birthday.

The annual event is a distribution of specially printed paperback books, offered free of charge, to people who are non-readers or who rarely read. The distribution is meant to boost their interest in literature and reading.

This year more than 25,000 volunteers went to 6,200 towns across America to share 500,000 books.

The eight Ocean County branches that participated each received 20 copies of different books. Those branches that took part in the book giveaway (and the titles they distributed) were: Plumsted (“Code Name Verity”); Little Egg Harbor (“When I was Puerto Rican”); Tuckerton (“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children”); Barnegat (“Hoot”, “Code Name Verity”, and “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”); Toms River (“Hoot”); Beachwood (“Code Name Verity”); Lakewood (“Hoot”); and Stafford (“The Ruins of Gorlan.”)
