Manchester celebrates ’50s Day!

One could not have asked for a nicer day to party.

About 200 people ringed the library parking lot and two dozen more braved the warm pavement just so they could dance and listen better as the Roustabouts performed during Manchester’s ‘50s Day, Saturday June 14.

The concert was part of a bigger celebration that drew people in to wax nostalgic to the music and stories of their youth.

Bonnie Nadley-Silvestri, a dancer on the television series “American Bandstand” in 1961, told of her experiences on the show and the music personalities that she met.

Instructors from Daniel’s Ballroom, Toms River, gave lessons on the dances of that time.

An impromptu vintage car show displayed a couple of cars, including a 2010 Dodge Challenger that looked very much like a 1972 Challenger.  A look under the hood showed you that it overpowered the 383-engines of 40 years ago.

Special thanks to Principal Library Assistant Maria Colon, Branch Manager Suzanne Scro and the staff at Manchester for a great party!
