Manchester to start new book & movie discussion group

MANCHESTER  –  The Manchester library branch, 21 Colonial Dr., will begin a new monthly program, “From Page to Screen: A Book and Film Discussion” starting at 1 p.m Thursday, September 4.

The group will meet the first Thursday each month to discuss an assigned book and view a film adaptation of that title.

The first book to be discussed, “The Perfect Storm,” was written by Sebastian Junger. In October 1991, a confluence of weather conditions came together to form a killer storm in the North Atlantic.  A commercial fishing boat, the Andrea Gail, unaware of the gravity of the situation, was caught in the storm. Tragically, the entire crew of the Andrea Gail was lost.

The book and movie depicted the bravery of these individuals when faced with 100 foot waves caused by this “perfect storm.”

The movie, which will be screened at the library on September 4, stars George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg.

Although there is no pre-registration for this free adult program the book is available for immediate pickup at the Manchester branch. For further information telephone 732- 657-7600 or go online to
