State tax form to offer optional library donation

TOMS RIVER –  People will now be able to make a donation in support of the local library when they file their income taxes thanks to a bill signed by Governor Chris Christie September 10.

Taxpayers will be able to indicate on their New Jersey gross income tax return that a portion of their income tax refund or an enclosed contribution is to be deposited in the “Local Library Support Fund.”

The NJ Department of the Treasury has established an account for the voluntary contributions.

The act takes effect immediately and applies to taxable years commencing on or after January 1, 2015.

The funds that are collected will be distributed by the State Librarian according to a formula developed by law.

The current State Librarian is Mary Chute.

The preprinted version of the law can be found here: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/2014/Bills/A1500/1314_R1.HTM.
