Learn about caving at the library

TOMS RIVER –  Carolyn Zangara of Central New Jersey Grotto will present a program at three Ocean County Library branches during October that introduces the hobby of caving and will whet one’s appetite to learn more.

One does not have to travel hundreds of miles to explore caves, according to Zangara.  There are many located in New Jersey that invite people to study and appreciate them and the insights they provide about the environment.

While the program will not provide enough information to enable people to go caving on their own, it will present enough information to inspire one’s interest in exploring them.

The Central New Jersey Grotto is a non-profit organization founded in 1978 for the purpose of advancing the study, conservation, exploration and knowledge of caves. It is a local chapter of the National Speleological Society.

The program will be held at 7 p.m. at these branches:

Jackson, 2 Jackson Drive, Thursday Oct. 2, 732-928-4400.

Plumsted, 119 Evergreen Rd., New Egypt, Wednesday Oct. 8, 609-758-7888

Toms River, 101 Washington St., Tuesday Oct. 14, 732-349-6200 or 609-971-0514.

The programs are free and open to the public but registration is required. To register telephone the branch or go to the library’s website www.theoceancountylibrary.org , click on the “Events & News” icon, then click on “Calendar of Events.”
