Ocean County recognized Oct. 15 as Pretty In Pink Day to help raise awareness and educate about the importance of early detection through mammograms and clinical breast exams at regular intervals in order to lower breast cancer death rates.

For more than a decade, the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders has joined with the Ocean County Health Department in collaboration with the Ocean County Cancer Coalition and the Long Beach Island Health Department in recognizing Oct. 15, as Ocean County’s Pretty in Pink Day.

On Oct.15 everyone was encouraged to wear pink as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Participating in a proclamation presentation from the Board of Freeholders recognizing the day were from left to right Ocean County Freeholder Director Joseph H. Vicari, Leslie Terjesen, Ocean County Health Department, Freeholder Gerry P. Little, liaison to the Ocean County Health Department, Dana O’Connor, Long Beach Island Health Department and Susan Quinn, Director of the Ocean County Library.
