Manchester to host its new mahjong club 11/17

MANCHESTER  Manchester Branch Library’s newly formed Mahjong Club will be having its next monthly meeting on Monday, November 17 starting at 1:00 pm.  It is open to experienced Mahjong players only at this time and participants must supply their own game kits.

Please pre-register by calling 732.657.7600 or go online to http://www.theoceancountylibrary.org. Volunteers are also needed to help organize and run future meetings and to possibly teach beginners once the group is firmly established.

Starting in January, the Mahjong Club will meet every Tuesday evening. More details concerning this change will be made available by next month’s meeting.

Manchester to offer Windows 8 instruction 11/14

MANCHESTER – On Friday, November 14 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Manchester Branch Library, learn how to use the latest version of Microsoft Windows that includes new features plus some that are accessed differently from earlier editions. This class is for anyone that has recently acquired a new desktop, notebook or tablet computer that runs Microsoft Windows 8 as its operating system or is thinking about buying any of these. If you already own one, bring your Windows 8 laptop or tablet for hands-on training.

Manchester to host teen craft night

MANCHESTER – All teens are invited to the Manchester Branch Library on Thursday, November 13 at 6:00 pm to make drums out of recycled containers and other materials in honor of Native American History Month. All craft supplies will be provided by the library at no cost to participants. While working on their projects, participants will learn about Native American history and culture.

“Staying Safe in Manchester” police program to conclude 11/17

MANCHESTER –   The Manchester Township Police Department will wrap up its six-part program “Staying Safe in Manchester Township” starting a 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17 at Ocean County Library’s Manchester branch, 21 Colonial Dr.

This final program will address driving safety and will be followed by a Q&A session.  In addition, a representative from the Department of Public Safety will be present to help residents enroll in the NIXLE emergency notification system.

People who attend all six sessions will be awarded a Certificate of Completion. Please pre-register online at www.theoceancountylibrary.org or telephone 732-657-7600.

This presentation is open to all ages, free of charge.

Pine Shores Art Association presents “The Art of China” at Stafford

MANAHAWKIN –    Kate Nearpass Ogden, art history professor at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, will discuss “The Art of China – A Personal Experience” 7 p.m. Monday Nov.17 at Ocean County Library’s Stafford branch.

Her program will cover the art and architecture in 3 cities: Beijing, Datong, and Xi’an, focusing on famous “must-see” locations: the Forbidden City, the Terracotta Warriors, the Buddha Caves of Datong, the Great Wall, and the National Museum of China.

It will also include some of her personal experiences along the way, such as the Chinese culture of gift-giving, tea ceremonies, and the search for great dumplings.

There will also be a reception at 6 p.m. honoring Pine Shores Art Association artists Mary Walker Baptiste, Irene Bausmith, Elaine Marie Biddulph, Joan Dandeo, Paul Hartelius and Ilomay Pedicini. Their art will be showcased from November through February. Artwork is available for sale through participating artists.
