The Manchester Branch of the Ocean County Library will screen the film, “The Vow” on Wednesday, June 13, at 2:00 p.m. and again at 6:00 pm. See this popular romantic drama on a large screen without paying the admission fee of a movie theater!

A car accident puts Paige (Rachel McAdams) in a coma, and when she wakes up with severe memory loss, her husband Leo (Channing Tatum) works to win her heart again.

This PG13-rated movie is part of the library’s Feature Film Series. It is 104 minutes long. Although registration is not required, early arrival is recommended.

Minyonettes to sing Broadway tunes at the Manchester branch

At the Manchester Branch Library, the Minyonettes will perform a concert of Broadway show tunes on Saturday, June 9 from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm. The Minyonettes are a choral group made up of residents from the Leisure Village West retirement community.

Take Control of Your Health At The Manchester Branch

Beginning on Monday, June 11 and running for six weeks on Mondays starting at 10 am, the Ocean County Library Manchester Branch will offer a fun and practical course to help individuals with chronic conditions overcome daily challenges and maintain an active and fulfilling life. In the “Take Control of Your Health” program, trained peer leaders will teach you new ways to manage the symptoms of chronic pain and fatigue- overcome depression, manage stress, improve communication skills, increase your energy and become stronger in mind and body. Refreshments will be provided.

This free program is part of the library’s “Chapters of Health” series. It is open to all adults but space is limited to 25 people so registration is mandatory. Sign up once for all six sessions online at http://www.theoceancountylibrary.org or call 732.657.7600.

Manchester Branch to co-sponsor Women’s Breast Health seminar

On Thursday, June 7 at 2:00 pm the Ocean County Library Manchester branch will host a presentation by staff from Ocean Medical Imaging about preventing breast cancer. Attendees will receive a $10.00 gift card if they follow through with getting a mammogram afterwards. There will also be a door prize drawing and light refreshments.

The event is being offered as part of the library’s “Chapters of Health” series and is the result of a grant from the Susan B. Komen Foundation and a partnership with Ocean Medical Imaging.

“Mission: Impossible” at the Manchester Branch

The Manchester Branch Library will screen the film, “Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol” on Wednesday, May 23, at 2:00 p.m. and again at 6:00 pm. See this popular action thriller on a large screen without paying the admission fee of a movie theater!

In the 4th installment of the Mission Impossible series, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team race to track down a dangerous terrorist who has gained access to Russian nuclear launch codes and is planning a strike on the United States. An attempt by the team to stop him ends with an explosion causing severe destruction to the Kremlin and the IMF being implicated in the bombing. The President is forced to invoke Ghost Protocol, under which the IMF is disavowed and offered no help or backup. Ethan and his team chase their suspect to Dubai, and then to Mumbai, but might be too late to stop a disaster.

At the Manchester Branch Library on Tuesday, May 22 at 6:00 pm, Jennifer Klein, a registered dietician employed by ShopRite of Manchester, will show students in grades 7 through 12 how to eat healthy and cook healthy meals without spending forever in the kitchen! Manchester Branch To Host Coupon Mania

At 11:00 am on Monday, May 21 at the Manchester Branch Library, Maria Colon will show you how to save money on your shopping with coupons that you can print out from the Internet. She will show you how to find deals for free merchandise online, as well. Maria is a staff member at the library and an avid discount shopper!

Capitol Heights Lyric Opera Sings Immortal Love Songs At The Ocean County Library

Two Ocean County Library branches will serve as opera houses this June when the Capitol Heights Lyric Opera performs an evening of immortal love songs.

This concert features a delightful hour of arias and duets performed by critically acclaimed baritone Richard Cassell and mezzo-soprano Frances Devine. The pair will be singing selections from a variety of operas and Broadway shows including “Carmen”, “Don Giovanni”, “Phantom of the Opera”, and “South Pacific”.

Capital Heights Lyric Opera will be performing at the following Ocean County Library branches:

Lacey Branch (10 East Lacey Road) on Tuesday, June 5 at 7 pm

Upper Shores Branch (112 Jersey City Avenue) on Wednesday June 6 at 7 pm

Understanding Food Labels: Breaking It Down At The Ocean County Library

We all know that the FDA has required that food have labels about nutritional value. The bigger question is what does it mean?

Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New jersey is partnering with Ocean County Library to lead the informative presentation “Understanding Food Labels: Breaking It Down” at several library branches this June.

Rebecca Bari, R.N., from Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Jersey, is leading these presentations which cover topics including the difference between “natural” and organic”, the importance of identifying serving size, monitoring the percent of daily value, and other terms found on food labels.

This program is free and open to the public and is offered at the following Ocean County Library branches:

Waretown branch (112 Main St.) on June 4 at 7 pm

Jackson branch (2 Jackson Dr.) on June 7 at 2 pm

Tuckerton branch (380 Bay Ave.) on June 11 at 2 pm

Lacey branch (10 East Lacey Rd.) on June 25 at 10 am
