Scarecrows at library branches

While there aren’t any corn mazes or hay rides at the local branches of Ocean County Library, they are being populated by scarecrows.

The ambassadors of fall, made by the Girl Scout troops of the Jersey Shore Council, began appearing in branches the week of October 10th. Each scarecrow is designed and built by one of the more than 650 scouts from 70 troops and will remain in the branches until just before Thanksgiving.

“This scarecrow project provides scouts with an opportunity to be creative while doing a service. The public will see a Miss USA scarecrow, spooky Halloween scarecrows and even a Tinkerbelle scarecrow among many other themes. The girls did a great job!” said Marilyn Bass, Cadette Troop Leader in Waretown.

“Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore has enjoyed a wonderful partnership over the years with the Ocean County Library and we are grateful for the opportunity to brighten up the library this fall,” said Bass.
